Brazilian Meat

Even though we have returned from Brazil we will keep our focus on Brazil for this weeks post and discussion points. About a week ago the meat industry in Brazil took a hit domestically and globally. Below I have linked two articles regarding the recent issues facing the meat industry in Brazil. One includes a video and the other is strictly text. I encourage you to check out both and then utilize the discussion points provided to guide conversations around the globe.

Discussion Points
  • What is the meat industry in Brazil facing at this time?
  • What are other countries doing in reaction to the current situation? What has been the impact on Brazilian exports?
  • What are the possible impacts that this could have on the global meat markets? Explain your reasoning.
  • If you were a high ranking official in Brazil how would you deal with the current situation to ensure as little impact to the Brazilian meat industry as possible?

The meat industry in Brazil are not exporting fresh "clean" meat. The meat shipped to other countries is riddled with chemicals and/or isn't fit to eat because of expiration dates or meat quality. Global meat markets are losing a lot of the Brazilian meat, without the meat coming from brazil, the markets will have to find other countries for meat. The amount of healthy meat found is diminishing because of bad processing and unhealthy practices and the more it diminishes, the less chance meat will be shipped to markets, the more people who don't have meat. This will also effect costs, the less meat being shipped, the higher it will cost, this could be a problem for families who cannot afford meat and need that nutrition in their diet.

Brazilian meat corporations and meat inspectors are accused of allowing rotten meat into the market place. The corporations are bribing inspectors and politicians to overlook common health practices, so this meat would end up in the stores. These accusations are financially hurting Brazil because they are losing billions in import to other countries. This will affect Brazil's economy and agriculture for a long time.

Other countries at this time are taking big steps to ensure the meat they received from Brazil is not contaminated, and is not buying anymore meat from them until this is resolved. Doing this the Brazilian meat market has plummeted.

Countries are suspending imports of Brazil's meat so this could cause meat to increase in price on a global scale.

its sad to see that thousands of people could potentially die and get sick just so one person could make extra money and now if they find out who was Turing a blind eye they will get fired. outer country's are shocked and concerned for their health and some country's have stopped meat imports from Brazil and with brazil being a such a large exporter of meat the prices of meat in other country's will most likely go up in cost.

The meat industry in Brazil are facing a problem with cleanliness in the meat packaging industry. They are letting rotten meat or meat tainted with salmonella get into the market place.

Right now the meat industry in Brazil has faced a huge problem. The problem being that employees at meat packaging plants are paying inspectors to overlook the problem of the meat packers using chemicals to improve the appearance and smell of the expired meat. Currently, police are looking farther into the case. This is really bad for the Brazilian meat industry right now, being that Brazil is the largest exporter of beef and chicken.

Lat Friday police raided several eat producers for reportedly making deals with meat inspection to certify the presence of salmonella or rotten meat. Last year Brazil exported $12.6 Billion in meat. It is one of the worlds largest meat exporters, and is a staple to Brazil. 6 million people work in the meat industry in Brazil, and now with a ban on any meat exports from Brazil, the countries economy could derail.

i think that if the people do something wrong they should own up to it and instead of maybe killing houndreds or thousands of people because you want to use cemicals and other things that could probably kill the people that consume the meat. Just own up to your mistakes and dont dig your self a hole and get your self in truble and get your employes in truble
