Agriculture and Health Come Together

The Director-General of the FAO came together with health ministers at a G7 gathering to stress the need to transform food systems to improve health and nutrition. Some intriguing points are shared in the linked article. We encourage you to read the article and utilize the discussion points provided to guide conversations in classrooms, coffee shops, and communities around the globe!

FAO to G7: Urgent Action Needed to Curb Malnutrition Globally

Discussion Points

  • Hunger is one of three concerns globally with malnutrition. What other areas are of concern to malnutrition and why?
  • What piece of information from the article surprised you the most and why?
  • The following was quoted in the article: "Transforming food systems to promote healthy diets means taking action in each step of the food chain, from farm to fork." What ideas do you have to transform the food system and why would they work?
  • Why is the "One Health" approach so important to ensuring food safety?

There are different types of malnutrition every where around the globe. Many cities are finding out that fresh local grown food is better for people than non local grown food.

The article is about how we need a healthy diet in all parts of the world. If a healthy diet was possible for everyone less people would be suffering from the three types of malnutrition. That number will rise if we continue to do nothing.

The piece of information that surprised me the most in the article is the one that said about one in three people globally suffers from at least one form of malnutrition ranging from hunger, micronutrient deficiencies, overweight to obesity. It then said that until we take action, then half of the worlds population will suffer from at least on type of malnutrition by 2030. This surprised me so much because I would have never guessed that it was one in three people that suffered from malnutrition globally.

if we dont do anything then the article said about half the world population world will suffer from some form of malnutrition.
That obese people would be considered malnurishioused
raise prices on fast food chains and lower the price of fruits and vegetables.
it would help prevent against diseases in animals to human transmission along with antimicrobials in livestock.

2 billion people in the world are overweight while 1.9 billion are undernourished. This is a very eye opening fact given if food was properly distributed there would be much less malnourished people

I was most surprised by the fact that said 1 in 3 people suffer from some type of malnutrition. I knew this was a large problem but not this bad. 33% of the population suffers from some type of malnutrition.

1 and 3 people suffer from a type of malnutrition.

I had no idea that 2 billion people suffer from micronutirent deficiencies and almost 1.9 billion adults are over weight.

I read that by 2030 if we don't do some thing about our food problem that almost half the world will be effected by at least one type of malnutrition, and that 1 and 3 people suffer from at least one type of malnutrition

The thing that was interesting to me was the fact that 1/3 of the population suffers from malnutritian

I did not realize that 1 in 3 people suffered from a form of malnutrition.

I'm astounded that 1 in 3 people suffer from some type of malnutrition. That's really bad and we should do something about it.

Nutrition is very important to get in your body, and a lot of people don't get it. It surprised me that 1 in 3 people are suffering from malnutrition, and if we don't do something about it before 2030, half the world will be suffering from malnutrition.

Conflict, hunger, and climate change are three concerns globally about malnutrition. Something that surprised me is that 1 in 3 people suffer globally from at least one form of malnutrition, and that by 2030 at least half of the population will suffer from malnutrition unless we do something to change that.

I'm shocked to know that if the numbers continue to rise as is half of the population will suffer from some kind of malnutrition.

more than half of the world's population will suffer from at least one type of malnutrition by 2030

if half of the adults are gonna be under the category malnutrition, then to me their kids are gonna have some kinda restriction by their mother not being able to give them the right kinda a nutriton and their brains might not grow right
